Kristy Chong, founder of Modibodi, is on a mission to inspire women to be comfortable, fierce and unstoppable with her line of tops, underwear and singlets that are reusable, sustainable and leak proof. Kristy is determined to make those "unmentionable" womanly processes totally mentionable!

What do you love most about Modibodi?

I get to wake up every day and make a difference. Modibodi came from a personal need and desire to change women's underwear for the better. After suffering from pelvic floor weakness after the birth of my second child and experiencing irregular periods throughout my life, I thought it was time for women's underwear to evolve.

I questioned why with all the advances in technology our underwear had not changed and we were still relying on inconvenient, irritating, unattractive, eco-damaging disposable hygiene to stay dry and fresh. I think most of us wear underwear to protect our bodies from our clothes, but for millions of women it often lets us down. We simply created a line of underwear offers fashion, comfort and protection in one.

We receive so many personal emails and comments from customers across the globe about how Modibodi has given them independence, confidence and comfort.

What made you want to break the social norm of ‘unmentionables'?

I was running one day after my second son and I realised that there had to be a better way to support bladder leaks than an unsightly and environmentally detrimental panty liner. I came up with the idea for Modibodi out of personal need. I think breaking taboos is very important and something we shouldn’t shy away from. As women we all face the reality of periods, and if we choose to have them,  children and both of this things come with challenges and perks. These issues are so common they shouldn’t be a taboo and I think we should start discussion early.

Pelvic floor weakness and periods are inescapable parts of growing as a woman and I want Modibodi to support women in every stage of their lives.

How do you make sure you take time for yourself? How do you unwind and de-stress?

As a mum of three boys I’m forced to shut down all work and be present for them as soon as they get home. I’m working hard so I can be a great mum and have more financial freedom. The kids are in bed by 8.30pm which gives me a few hours to either relax with my husband or do more work depending on how pressing my deadlines are. I of course have the occasional work event on mid week (though I keep them to a minimum) and on Tuesdays and Fridays I go for a morning run and have just started Xtend Barre on Thursday nights.

What do you hope for in the future of your industry and for Modibodi?

To build a business that gives me financial freedom and to be a great mum, and that business can be more than just about money and profits, it can be instrumental in driving social change and making a difference to the world we live in. I want to wake up and know that I’m driving social change, making unmentionables mentionable, clearing up our landfills and most importantly, making every bodi as comfortable as they can be.

I hope that our industry gets more environmentally friendly

What are five things that you couldn't live without?

My boys, my husband, my iPhone, avocado’s and a good pair of running shoes!

The Modibodi manifesto stresses the importance of women being in tune with their bodies so we can feel comfortable, confident and fierce. How do you manage to stay in tune with your body? In what ways do you make sure you're taking care of yourself so you feel confident, comfortable and fierce?

I believe that feeling confident and comfortable is key. I make sure to move as much as I can which is fairly easy with three boys! I take the time to run as much as I can, I play netball with a team of friends.

I think that you have to take care of yourself to take care of others. So I always make sure I’m feeling fighting fit and confident. I’m also a pescatarian so I feel like I’m taking care of myself, and the planet a lot more, which really builds into Modibodi’s manifesto!
