Love, Life and Candles with Alchemy Produx co-founder Sara

What is your favourite part about the lifestyle you've created for yourself, and how different is it to your previous career?

My husband, Tristan, also works on Alchemy Produx with me, so I guess our business has created a lifestyle for our family where we get to choose our work/life balance. We are lucky enough to travel a lot with Alchemy so it's a lot more enjoyable getting to do that together. We started Alchemy as a means for creating the ideal lifestyle for ourselves, so we try to not take it all too seriously! We have also just relocated our warehouse from Melbourne to the Mornington Peninsula where we live, and this has definitely improved our daily balance and eliminated the dreaded commute!

You've been running Alchemy Produx for 7 years now. What is your biggest (or most current) fear?

Trends change, so for us our biggest and most current fear is staying relevant and also developing new products that can match the success of our Clear Lab series which we are best known for and continues to be our best seller. Also, candle making has exploded in the last few years with a new brand popping up every day, so it is important for us to stay professional and ahead of the industry.

Describe the best day in your business to date...

The best and most proud day was our first trade show which was Life Instyle back in 2013. To say we were swamped would be an understatement. It was a crazy day but with all the dread of having to pour all the candles there was great satisfaction at the incredible response we had received from the retail world! This trade show really launched our brand into the Australian gift market.

Where is your favourite local hang out?

We live in a small seaside town about 1 and a half hours out of Melbourne, so my favourite local hang would be the back beach for a walk with a take away coffee I've made at home!

You have an evening to yourself for some me-time. What do you do?

A glass of red wine is always the first thing I reach for, shortly followed by catching up on emails. I enjoy catching up on work with out the pressure of a deadline. Top priority is a nice dinner with Tristan, or cuddles with my puppies on the couch!

Is there anything you want to get better at in terms of taking care of yourself?

I have a 1 year old so my self care isn't top priority at the moment. I have a huge to-do list for taking care of myself, and the top items would be more pilates and mediation, which I did a lot of before my baby came along.
